Mommy Feature: Tiffany Bazilio
Being a mom is so much more than just changing diapers and rocking your baby to sleep. There’s no doubt it’s an amazing journey but it’s one that requires a complete transformation from the way you once did things! Over the years I’ve found that reading about other mom’s experiences has been a great asset to my own development as a parent. From advice, to commentary on the highs and the lows, sometimes it’s just nice to know that you’re not alone in this new chapter. It’s in light of this that I too want to provide a platform, through our blog, website and social media channels, where moms can share their stories, triumphs and missteps. The raw, uncut and unadulterated truth of motherhood.
Alright, enough mom-brained babbling :D! On to the juicy part and I'm so happy to introduce our very first feature, a special friend of mine and amazing mama to her baby boy.
Tiffany Bazilio, this month’s feature.
1. Tell us about yourself
Hi everyone!
My name is Tiffany Bazilio and I am 26 years old. I am a mom of a 2-year-old and the owner of a small business called Brazo's Giftshop which I started in 2017 after graduating as a Business Management Student from the University of the Southern Caribbean. My favourite tv show is Modern family and I enjoy writing.
2. What's the most rewarding thing about being a mom?
I would say the most rewarding thing about being a mom is seeing your child genuinely happy and knowing that you're doing your best. Nothing in the world can compare to that kind of feeling of love and all the cuddles that come with it!
3. What was the most surprising thing you discovered about being a mom?
The most surprising thing for me was realizing how hard it actually is. Especially trying to balance mom life and work life. In my experience I found the newborn stage hardest because I was so sleep deprived and I was still recovering from my birth experience. I honestly didn't expect it to be so tough. I always imagined that newborns would sleep all day, but it was the opposite! At least for me. Generally speaking, being a mom is tough and it made me realize how strong women are. We don't give ourselves enough credit for all we endure during pregnancy, to birth, and then through out motherhood.
4. What advice would you give to an expecting mom/new mom?
My advice to a new mom, expecting mom would be GOODLUCK WITH THAT! (Just kidding) It would be to take it one day at a time and know that it gets easier every day because you get more experience everyday and you learn how to deal with certain situations. Just know that the hard times of the newborn stage is just a phase and it gets easier. It won’t last forever, you'll see. You will sleep again someday!
5. What's your favourite activity to do as a family?
My favourite thing to do as a family would be watching movies together or going to the park. But honestly, anything my baby enjoys would be my favorite thing to do. It's hard to do much right now because of Covid but ideally, I would love for us to travel as a family more.
6. What does self-care mean to you as a mom?
Self-care for me means spending time alone, because as a parent, whether you're a working mom or not, you don't get a lot of time for yourself. When I do have the time however, I practice self-care by doing things I enjoy, like watching a movie or drinking a glass of wine. A little bit of me time is all i need to unwind and relax.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Tiffany for taking time to be a part of our blog and for your honesty! No doubt being a mom has its challenges but you’re doing awesome!
